King in Waiting . . . William was born on June 21, 1982 at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, West London, England. He was the first royal to attend a public elementary school, instead of being educated at home. He was a pupil at Mrs Jane Mynors' School and then the pre-preparatory Wetherby School, both in London. William later attended the Ludgrove School in Berkshire for five years. After passing an entrance exam, he went on to Eton College and studied geography, biology and art history. After a gap year in which he visited Chile, Belize and countries in Africa, William chose to study at St Andrews University in Fife, Scotland. He graduated with a 2:1 in Geography in 2005 giving him the distinction of earning the second highest undergraduate award in the UK and the best academic grade any member of the British royal family has ever achieved. He joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as an Officer Cadet in January of 2006 and graduated in December of that same year. He was commissioned as an army officer in front of Her Majesty The Queen at Sandhurst later that month. In January of 2007, he reported for duty in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry as a Second Lieutenant. An avid swimmer and polo player, William possesses all the attributes of the quintessential British gentleman and sportsman.
